Sausalito Sub-Zero diagnostics — model tag, airflow and moisture evidence before any quote.

Your Wolf range hood manual is the Use and Care Guide written for your hood's model family, and the quickest way to the right one is the model prefix on the rating plate: VW, VI, DD, PW, PWC, PI or PL. Read alongside Wolf's 2-year full warranty and 5-year limited coverage, that manual tells you which filter, bulb and replacement part fits and who pays when something fails.

Most owners reach for the Wolf hood manual because a filter or bulb needs replacing, the display shows a code, or a blower or control part has failed and the warranty question comes up. This guide pulls those hood details from Wolf's filter information, the Pro Ventilation Use and Care Guide and the residential warranty.

What Does a Wolf Hood Manual Actually Cover?

Wolf writes its hood documentation by model family rather than by single model, so the first job is decoding the prefix printed on the rating plate. VW marks a cooktop wall hood, VI a cooktop island hood, DD a downdraft, PW a pro wall hood, PWC a pro wall chimney hood, PI a pro island hood and PL a pro hood liner built into custom cabinetry.

A Wolf Use and Care Guide for a hood explains operation, blower speeds, lighting, filter cleaning and the display reminders. A separate Wolf installation guide handles ducting, clearances, mounting and wiring, and a technician needs that document when a hood is moved or a liner goes into new cabinets.

The Wolf manual will not list every replacement part. Blower motors, control boards and light assemblies are ordered by model and serial number, so the rating plate matters more than the booklet.

Where Do You Find the Model and Serial Number?

On most Wolf hoods the rating plate sits inside the canopy, easiest to read with the filters out. Write down the model number, serial number, installation date and dealer name; Wolf asks for all four before arranging warranty service, and the same record speeds up parts orders.

The Wolf serial number also decides some parts. Pro ventilation hoods gained grease cups and spacers starting with serial number 16314782, so two hoods sharing a model number can need different cleaning steps and small parts. All 27-inch deep Wolf wall hoods have heat lamps, with the grease cups at the front.

Registering a Wolf hood online or in the Sub-Zero Group Owner's App takes minutes, and a registered installation date removes guesswork if a Wolf blower motor or control board fails in year 3 or 4.

Which Filter Fits Your Wolf Hood?

Wolf pro island hoods such as the I363418 take six 811180 baffle filters. Wolf pro wall hoods such as the PW302418 use the same 811180 baffle, which measures 11-7/8 by 11-7/8 inches.

Wolf pro hood liners such as the L342212 use the larger 816311 baffle filter, 13-1/2 by 12-7/8 inches, so a liner owner should never assume the pro wall hood filter will fit.

The Wolf CTWH30 cooktop wall hood uses two 816396 mesh filters at 10-1/2 by 14 inches. Black glass VW30B and VW36B hoods use mesh filter 825544, while VW30S, VW36S and VI42S cooktop hoods use mesh filter 825596.

Wolf pro hood filters, spacers and grease cups need cleaning every 3-6 months, and all three are dishwasher safe. A Wolf hood should never run without its filters, because grease then coats the blower and ductwork directly. Sausalito has more than 400 floating homes, the largest such community in the US, and a Wolf hood in a compact galley over the water also handles steam and salt air, so those owners do well to clean near the 3-month mark.

New Wolf pro ventilation hoods ship with the baffle filters installed inside; at installation the Wolf filters come out so the blue or white protective film and white foam packaging can be removed.

Should You Buy Genuine Wolf Parts or Aftermarket?

A genuine Wolf baffle filter is sized to the hood's filter rail and grease channel, which is why the part numbers above carry exact dimensions. An aftermarket baffle that is slightly off can leave a gap where grease bypasses the filter and collects on the blower wheel and inside the duct, turning a cleaning chore into a fire and odor risk.

Wolf hood lighting follows the same logic. Pro ventilation hoods use 3000K GU10 bulbs, removed with the supplied suction-cup changer by a quarter turn, and 27-inch deep wall hoods take R40, 250W heat lamp bulbs. A cooler generic GU10 fits but changes how food looks, and a Wolf heat lamp socket should only get the specified R40, 250W bulb.

For motors and electronics, the Wolf warranty draws the sharpest line. During the 5-year limited coverage, an owner using service outside Wolf's network must contact Wolf to receive repaired or replacement parts, and Wolf will not reimburse a blower motor or control board bought elsewhere. An aftermarket motor on a hood inside that window gives up a part Wolf would have supplied.

How Does the Wolf Warranty Treat Hood Repairs?

Wolf's residential warranty starts with a full two-year period from the date of original installation, covering all parts and labor for any part defective in materials or workmanship under normal residential use. A Wolf hood that fails in that window goes to Wolf first, with model, serial, installation date and dealer name ready.

From year 3 through year 5, the Wolf limited warranty narrows to listed components; for hoods that means the blower motor and electronic control boards. Wolf covers those parts for five years from installation, while the owner pays other costs, including labor.

Several Wolf warranty limits surprise hood owners. Cosmetic defects in stainless steel and manufacturer-provided powder-coated doors are covered for only 60 days, hood recirculating kit replacement filters are excluded, and coverage applies only to residential installations in the fifty US states, the District of Columbia or Canada's ten provinces.

Once Wolf coverage ends, an independent technician can diagnose the hood and quote the repair. At Sausalito Sub-Zero Repair the $89 diagnostic fee is credited toward the repair when the work goes ahead.

What Do FG, FC and 88 Mean on a Wolf Hood Display?

FG on a black V Series Wolf hood, which can look like F6, means the mesh filters need cleaning. Clean the Wolf mesh filters monthly, or more often with grease or wok cooking, reinstall them, then hold DELAY until FF shows. If FG returns right after a clean and reset, call a technician.

FC on a black V Series Wolf hood is the recirculation filter reminder, shown after about 100 hours of use. Replace the Wolf recirculation filters, then hold DELAY until FF appears. The FC reminder cannot be disabled and shows even on hoods without recirculation filters, so a ducted hood showing FC only needs the reset.

88 on a Wolf V Series hood display has no owner troubleshooting step, and the hood needs a technician. Check the installation date before booking, since a failed electronic control board would fall under Wolf's 5-year limited coverage for parts.

FAQ

Questions & answers

Where can I get a Wolf range hood manual if mine is lost?

Download it from Wolf's website by searching the full model number from the rating plate inside the hood canopy. Match the prefix, such as VW, VI, PW or PL, so the Use and Care Guide fits your hood family.

Are Wolf hood filters covered by the warranty?

Recirculating filters are not: Wolf excludes hood recirculating kit replacement filters outright. A baffle or mesh filter defective in materials or workmanship falls under the 2-year full warranty, but bent, worn or grease-damaged filters are an owner maintenance purchase.

What light bulb does a Wolf pro hood use?

Wolf pro ventilation hoods use 3000K GU10 bulbs, changed with the supplied suction-cup tool by a quarter turn; 27-inch deep wall hoods also take R40, 250W heat lamp bulbs.

Will Wolf pay me back for a blower motor I bought elsewhere?

No. During the 5-year limited coverage, Wolf will not reimburse parts bought from other sources; an owner using service outside Wolf's network must contact Wolf to receive the repaired or replacement part, and the owner still pays the labor. Locally, Sausalito Sub-Zero Repair covers this: (415) 683-1487.
